This oft-covered classic gets the Now Play It treatment in this tutorial, providing you with a variety of different techniques to get to grips with (including pick slides!) If you have learnt basic open and bar chords, this is a great tutorial to put your skills to the test as it includes both chord types played closely together with simple lead lines. “Going Underground" will also improve the control and rhythm in your strumming hand as it chops and changes fairly quickly between light and heavy strums. The varieties of rhythms will also help to better your timing abilities, especially in the first verse of the track. Overall, a superb tune to play and sing along to, even if you can’t quite deliver the vocals like Paul Weller!

This brilliantly simple acoustic punk anthem makes great use of a small number of straightforward chords, giving even the least experienced guitarist a chance to play a piece of punk history! In addition to having a solid set of simple chords, this song also has a great strumming pattern that is reminiscent of Pete Townshend from The Who (if you've seen KT Tunstall's tutorial for "I Don't Want You Now", KT explains a bit about this style of strumming). Overall, this tutorial is versatile and a lot of fun for guitarists at any level. Note: this lesson requires a capo

In the early '80s, this number one hit was the soundtrack to working class Britain; upbeat and energetic whilst conveying tales of urban decay. The song is driven by the hook laden bass line and strong drum accompaniment; therefore, the guitar part provides a much needed treble balance to the track. This tutorial is great for anyone who has mastered basic open chords but would like to learn how to play variations of these chords higher up the neck to achieve a crisper, tighter strum sound. In addition, nearly all the chord positions in this song are played solely on the top three strings, which really complete Weller’s signature guitar sound. Not only are all chord parts covered, but the tutorial also guides you through the option of trying out the lead line which provides the perfect opportunity to experiment with your own hammer-ons and pull-offs.
